Choosing the best handle type for you: Brushed vs Knurled vs Wooden:
At Magic Macebells I offer 3 handle styles, while the primary functionality of an adjustable weight mace with any of the 3 handle styles remains unchanged, each handle style does provide subtle differences to the users experience of the mace. In this article I will highlight these differences and help steer you to select the best handle style for your intended use!
Brushed Stainless Steel:

The brushed handle finish is created with a P60 coarse sanding process to create a semi-rough texture around the entire surface of the mace handle. It provides more grip than a smooth metal finish but still allows hands to slide over the handle when desired. It is the most budget friendly option but still provides plenty of grip with dry hands. If you are an unsure beginner, this is the handle type I recommend. It provides the lowest minimum investment and gives you all the functionality to get started and progress with mace training. It is very versatile allowing you to perform any types of movement you can imagine with a mace!
Knurled Stainless Steel:
The knurled handle finish is created by pressing a pair of hardened steel rollers with opposing helical spiral ribs into the handle with extreme pressure whilst rotating the handle between them. This forms a diamond textured pattern in the handle which provides a huge amount of grip, even with damp or sweaty hands. The knurled section of the handle occupies the bottom 32cm of the handle closest to the pommel. This does mean that it is more difficult to slide hands smoothly down the length of the handle, as there is a transition in grip between the knurled section of the handle and the remainder of the handle. This handle type is great for swinging heavy, folk who have sweaty hand or like to use there mace in damp conditions. While this handle type can be used as a versatile general purpose mace, certain flow movements where hands are required to slide over the length of the handle can feel more tricky. After a lot of development and testing, I have settled on a knurl that is less aggressive than typically found on a barbell, this offers what I believe to be the best compromise between grip and abrasiveness on the hands.
Sapele Wooden Handle:

The wooden handled maces are created by blending a solid section of traditional Sapele hardwood with modern stainless steel to create a stunningly beautiful hybrid construction which combines the best of both materials. The wooden section occupies the bottom 31cm of the handle closest to the pommel. The wooden section provides more grip than the brushed finish especially with moisture present, whilst also feeling warmer to the touch than either of the stainless steel handle variants. If budget allows I recommend this option to everyone, it provides a versatile mace which excels at all disciplines, is most comfortable on the hands and is downright beautiful, even if I say so myself!
